Kara no Kyōkai Blu-ray Box Set: A Shifting Perspective
The sounds of chatter and shuffling.
Standing amongst a small line of people. The sun seeping through the glass windows.
“Next in line!”
I flip out the notice and my ID. I am ready.
The chattering and shuffling die down as I wait for a couple of minutes. I am alone as I have always been, like the lone petal on a dying flower.
Eternity must be an awful thing. I’d like to be home by now. These shoes are uncomfortable.
Suddenly the employee emerges. She places the box on the counter. “Thank you. Have a nice day.” “Thanks, you too.”
The drive home is swift like the wind. I walk in and notice the air is cold. Quiet. Dead would be an appropriate term.
I place the box on the table. It is intimidating to me, which makes it awesome.
The knife in my hand is an extension of my body. I part away the tape with sheer efficiency.
Strawberry ice cream? I look at it with an empty mind. I place it aside.
Yet another box. I am confounded. Perhaps I will never find what I long for. Eternity mocks me.
Whatever sunlight managed to creep through the blinds of the windows illuminates everything. Divinity on my table. I am amazed.
I caress the felt. The contents remind me of the olden days, where gigantic discs were read by lasers. Looking at the innards of this box, it seems not much has changed. There are only minor differences today. The discs are simply smaller and the laser rays are blue.
Eight discs. The eight resembles infinity. Perhaps it will take me this long to view these movies. And maybe even longer to review them.
But that does not matter to me. I believe I have reached an epiphany after looking at this set: that, perhaps, eternity is not awful after all.
URGH. Must. Resist… Urge to buy… MUST!
*Looks at wallet*
Ah much better.
It does look very much worth it though. I like the strawberry ice cream. Nice touch.
Eternity isn’t so bad? It’s a double-edged sword.
props dude
♥~ thank you ~♥
I didn’t know Kinoko Naisu wrote for this blog too. You got connections, bro!
so that’s what a box set looks like…holy shit it’s beautiful. how much?
400 smackers! And they’re all sold out!
I’m still waiting for mine to arrive…looking at the photos there, it’ll be worth it though.
Oh yeah, I dug the Naisu commentary. Very nicely done. ^_^
Yeah, it’s really pretty.
Also, be prepared to send Right Stuf an email with your contact info, as there are some cosmetic problems with the box; the lid may be slightly bowed, the back cover may be bent, and/or the silver lettering might scratch off.
More info here.
Ice cream? What was with that?
We’ll simply chalk it up to being a great unsolvable mystery.
I liked the ice cream reference as well.
Ahh! Awesome! You got one too! When I opened my package to rightstuf and saw the laptop-esque case the box came in, I couldn’t help but chuckle like an idiot.
The interviews are pretty interesting and definitely worth reading if you’re a type lunatic like me (and I’m assuming you’re at least close to being one if you spent enough to buy this).
Amazon.co.jp is selling this thing for $500. You didn’t spend $500 on this did you?
Pfft. What are you, crazy? I spent 400.
