Kara no Kyōkai Blu-ray Box Set: A Shifting Perspective

The sounds of chatter and shuffling.

Standing amongst a small line of people.  The sun seeping through the glass windows.

“Next in line!”

I flip out the notice and my ID.  I am ready.

The chattering and shuffling die down as I wait for a couple of minutes.  I am alone as I have always been, like the lone petal on a dying flower.

Eternity must be an awful thing.  I’d like to be home by now.  These shoes are uncomfortable.

Suddenly the employee emerges.  She places the box on the counter.  “Thank you.  Have a nice day.” “Thanks, you too.”

The drive home is swift like the wind.   I walk in and notice the air is cold.  Quiet.  Dead would be an appropriate term.

I place the box on the table.  It is intimidating to me, which makes it awesome.

The knife in my hand is an extension of my body.  I part away the tape with sheer efficiency.

Strawberry ice cream?  I look at it with an empty mind.  I place it aside.

Yet another box.  I am confounded.  Perhaps I will never find what I long for.  Eternity mocks me.

Whatever sunlight managed to creep through the blinds of the windows illuminates everything.  Divinity on my table.  I am amazed.

I caress the felt.  The contents remind me of the olden days, where gigantic discs were read by lasers.  Looking at the innards of this box, it seems not much has changed.  There are only minor differences today.  The discs are simply smaller and the laser rays are blue.

Eight discs.  The eight resembles infinity.  Perhaps it will take me this long to view these movies.  And maybe even longer to review them.

But that does not matter to me.  I believe I have reached an epiphany after looking at this set: that, perhaps, eternity is not awful after all.
